Lynch proposes new gaming control board - 2004-02-10
With gambling developing into an ever-increasing enterprise in Rhode Island, and with the possibility of a Foxwoods-style resort casino on the horizon, Attorney General Patrick Lynch wants to tighten up the way the state regulates the gaming industry.
Lynch unveiled legislation on Monday that would create a five-member state Gaming Control Commission to license, regulate and enforce the laws and rules concerning casino gambling.
At the same time, he would establish a Division of Gaming Enforcement within the attorney general's office that would, in cooperation with the state police, investigate applications for gambling establishments, prosecute violations before the commission, audit casino operations, and investigate and continually review casino questions.
