Rose: All bets off for reinstatement - 2004-02-10
If it meant getting back in baseball, Pete Rose said he would meet all conditions.
He would never again visit a casino, if that's what commissioner Bud Selig stipulated. He never again would bet on football or basketball. Baseball? For the past 14 1/2 years, Rose has been living with the consequences of betting on baseball, specifically the Cincinnati Reds team he was managing in 1987.
But here's the kicker: Rose was asked if he would surrender his favorite hobby. Yes, Rose said, he never again would be seen at a horse track, never again hang out in a private room with his buddies at Red & Jerry's, never again wager on a sure-thing pony - if it meant getting back into baseball.
