Water concerns anti-casino group - 2004-02-11
Anti-casino advocates are presenting a 96-year-old U.S. Supreme Court decision to argue that a planned Indian casino could suck the city's water supply dry.
Bill Muller, a member of Concerned Citizens Against the Casino, said a 1908 Supreme Court decision — called the Winters Doctrine — grants American Indians reserved water rights that would allow them to tap a well into the city's water supply.
"The city did not address the reserved water rights (that) trust lands are given," Muller said.
