As the Feb. 23 deadline rapidly closes in on the whittling down of three casino finalists, those at the forefront of efforts to persuade state regulators to name Des Plaines as the host community are increasing their efforts.

Off The Record has been told that the movers and shakers of a Des Plaines casino have either hired or are about to hire a large public relations company to spin the best possible message of why a casino here would benefit all. In addition, potential
casino owner Neil Bluhm and operator Steve Wynn, who had planned to visit Des Plaines roughly two months ago to tout their plans, may very well carry out that plan after Feb. 23 if Des Plaines is named a finalist.

The Bids Are In - 2004-02-12
It's Rosemont against the state for the 10th casino license, and the village is in there pitching, hard and fast.

After years of hype and legal wrangling, the "Super Bowl" of bidding for what could be the most profitable of the state's "riverboat" casinos has started.

In football terms, the game is in the first half, but the end of the game (decision-making time for where the license goes) is quickly approaching.

It will be here by late March or early April.
