SkyCity buys Darwin casino for $195m - 2004-02-12
New Zealand gaming company SkyCity Entertainment Group has paid Las Vegas-based MGM Mirage $195 million for Darwin's sole licensed casino, the MGM Grand Darwin.

SkyCity also owns the Adelaide casino, which it purchased in 2000 for $180 million, as well as casinos in Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown.

The MGM Grand Darwin offers three gaming rooms, 450 gaming machines and a 107-room hotel.

Exclusive interview with chief of Schaghticokes - 2004-02-12
There has been plenty of opposition and even rumors of a casino since the federal recognition of the Schaghticoke Indian tribe but now the chief of the tribe is speaking out.

Chief Richard Velky of the Schaghticoke tribe is slow to answer questions about building plans on his reservation. That is mainly because Velky says that federal recognition could be appealed within the next 90 days.
