Professional boxing continues at the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Coconut Creek Casino with an exciting lineup of fights. The card features former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer and Robert Allen
as co-main events. The card, which will take place at The Seminole Coconut Creek Casino is scheduled
for Saturday, February 28, and will consist of eight bouts including three North American Boxing Association championships and two female bouts.

Heavyweight Ray “Merciless” Mercer (32-5-1, 24 KOs) will square off against Steve Pannell (33-7, 27 KOs) of Roanoke, Virginia in a ten round heavyweight attraction. Mercer is coming off a two fight win streak, both by knockout. Mercer, the former Army sergeant, 1988 Olympic Gold medal winner and WBO heavyweight champion is fighting for the second time at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino. Prom

Casino Proposal Pits Hopes On Mining Move - 2004-02-12
A longstanding disagreement over a mining pit has landed in the middle of a high-stakes proposal to replace Rock Island's riverboat casino with a $90 million complex that could bring a hotel, conference center and as much as 400 jobs.

The site picked for the casino is owned by a Moline company that will only sell the land if it gets approval to move its sand-and-gravel operation to an adjacent area where neighbors have lobbied against a pit for years because of flooding and environmental concerns.

"You've got the classic conflict of interest between two property owners - one that wants to use their property the way they wanted and others who don't want this going on in their back yard," Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert said.
