Ricky Ponting won his first Allan Border Medal last night, then had shuddering news for bowlers all over the world – he can get better.

Justice was done at Crown casino when the debonair shot-maker became the newest Border medallist, joining a stellar list of previous winners featuring Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist.

The win was a timely triumph for Ponting, who today leaves as Australia's new Test skipper for a tour of Sri Lanka that includes five one-day internationals and three Tests.

Board recommends permanent disbarment for Stephen Edwards - 2004-02-12
The son of former Gov. Edwin Edwards should be permanently prohibited from practicing law for his conviction, together with his father, of extorting applicants for riverboat casino licenses, the Louisiana Supreme Court has been told.

The recommendation by the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board against Stephen Edwards comes 10 months after the ex-governor permanently resigned from practicing law.

Edwin Edwards is serving a 10-year federal prison sentence, while his son is serving seven years.
