Indian casino plans unveiled - 2004-02-12
At a press conference last Wednesday, Las Vegas-based Harrah's Entertainment and the Narragansett Indian Tribe revealed plans to build a $450 to $500 million gaming facility on roughly 30 acres of land in the West Warwick Industrial Park, adjacent to Route 95.

Harrah's and the tribe said the facility, which would include 3,500 gaming stations, a 500-room hotel and "full entertainment amenities" would create 3,200 permanent casino jobs with an average annual salary of $47,000 and over $100 million in new state revenues.

County Delays Decision On Tribal Casino Deal - 2004-02-12
Clark County commissioners listened carefully Tuesday as people praised and criticized an agreement between the county and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe on the rules governing a planned casino. Commissioners postponed a decision on the agreement until next week but made one thing clear: Further delays are not an option.

The agreement, called a memorandum of understanding, took about two years to draft and will take effect if the tribe builds a casino on 152 acres it owns on the west side of La Center Junction.
