Board member: Use casino cash, pay tax for poor - 2004-02-12
As he did three years ago, Lake County Commissioner Rudy Clay is again asking local communities to use their casino tax revenues to pay poor senior citizens’ property taxes.

While property taxes are anticipated to increase across the board in the county due to a special reassessment, Clay, D-Gary, says picking up senior citizens’ property taxes should be the common practice.

“It doesn’t matter with the reassessment. They should have been doing it all the time,” Clay said Wednesday morning during an interview in his office. “The least we can do is take the casino money and pay the property taxes for them.”

Bus tour possible for city - 2004-02-12
With Gov. Haley Barbour claiming tourism as an up and coming Mississippi market, the city's tourism promoters said Holly Springs is ready to link up to the bus tour industry in Tunica.

Tunica County has committed to develop a $3 million bus facility to take advantage of the casino industry's draw of 18,000 tour buses a year, according to Charles McKellar, president of LaMont's Eatourtainment, LLC.

Holly Springs and Clarksdale are two cities Tunica would like to put on its plans for bus stops, he said.
