Student group voices opposition to Madison casino - 2004-02-12
Students Against Casino Expansion, an organization
fighting the building of a Ho-Chunk casino in Southeast Madison, held a conference Wednesday to persuade students that a casino would drain money from the downtown area.

The group argues that adding a casino will result in layoffs and bankruptcies along State Street if it is not voted down in a referendum next Tuesday. The question will be on the same ballot as the Democratic presidential candidates.

UW seniors Steven Singh and Danika Sorenson have been hired by the Ho-Chunk Nation to lead the opposition, in what Ald. Austin King characterized as a "horse race" for the student vote.

Bar and casino plans roll into Central station - 2004-02-12
A large casino, bar, nightclub and restaurant complex could be constructed under one of Scotland's biggest and most historic railway stations, it was revealed yesterday.

Developers may convert the space below Glasgow Central station, which was used by a car and van rental firm and a car park company, into a huge entertainment venue.

More than 34 million people visit the station each year and it has won the Europa Nostra competition, a prestigious European heritage award, in recognition of the £33m invested over the past decade to restore the Victorian station to its former glory.
