Don't Blame Tribe For Sharp Casino Dealing - 2004-02-17
Local casino foes are in one last big lather because the Ho-Chunk Nation won't have to dig much deeper to pay off local governments for the right to operate a Madison casino. It appears that the tribe will just take the funds out of payments they had originally promised to state government.

Don't blame the tribe. They just did a better job protecting their own interests than Gov. Jim Doyle was able to do for the state as a whole.

No dice for casino - 2004-02-17
The DeJope casino referendum was resoundingly beaten by a 2-1 margin today, even though casino proponents spent at least $1.3 million in the most costly local election in Dane County history.

In the final unofficial tally in Dane County, the 'no' vote was 93,530, or 64.5 percent of the total, while the 'yes' vote was 51,543, 35.5 percent of the total.
