1 casino suitor gives up on Orange Co. - 2004-02-18
A second casino company has left the running for the Orange County casino.

Park Place Entertainment, which runs the Caesars Indiana casino in Harrison County, has withdrawn its application. In a news release, company officials said Park Place would probably not have gotten a large enough return on its investment in French Lick.

The decision leaves just three bidders for the state's 11th riverboat: Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, a group lead by Indiana Pacers executive Larry Bird and a group lead by former Indiana State Police Sgt. Craig Adolph. In December, Jacobs Entertainment, based in Black Hawk, Colo., withdrew its application for the Orange County casino.

Government considering purchase of hotel-casino near Hoover Dam - 2004-02-18
The federal government wants to purchase and close a hotel-casino neighboring Hoover Dam with funds earmarked for the acquisition of environmentally sensitive lands, and the owners say they might be willing to sell.

The Hacienda hotel-casino on U.S. 93 is one of 33 parcels listed by the federal Bureau of Land Management for a fifth round of land purchases under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act of 1998.
