Aristocrat gets slammed – FY net loss of $106m - 2004-02-23
Australian gambling machine producer, Aristocrat Leisure Limited (ALL) today revealed a $106 million net loss for 2003, reversing from a profit of $80.1 million the previous. The result was marred by some $160 million in one-off after tax adjustments, including an $86.3 million writedown of goodwill at Casino Data Systems, a US casino management systems and stepper business.

Prior to these one off items, Aristocrat recorded a profit of $54 million, down nearly 33% from a year ago.

Revenue for the period increased marginally from $976.5 million to $995.2 million setting a new revenue record for the company.

No Dice Gambling Bill Remains Stalled - 2004-02-23
Gambling foes are still steering the fate of a proposal to expand gaming in Nebraska. No vote was taken on the casino gambling proposal Monday, which marked the start of the second week of debate on the issue.

Supporters of the bill introduced an amendment they hoped would sway needed votes in their favor. Instead of eight casinos, as originally would have been allowed, the compromise called for only up to five. That would not count any casinos the state's American Indian tribes may build on reservations.

Additionally, any new casinos outside of the reservations would have to first be approved by a vote of people living in the county.
