GOVERNOR SAYS CASINO 'NOT THE SOLUTION' IN MEMPHIS - 2004-02-24 Casino gambling in Memphis is "not the solution" to the city's economic troubles, Gov. Phil Bredesen said while also emphasizing that attempts to expand gambling in Tennessee beyond the lottery should be curbed for up to 10 years.
Bredesen expressed his opinions in a conference call Monday while attending the annual National Governors Association conference in Washington, D.C.

Reef Casino back in the black - 2004-02-24 Amid the takeover bids for TAB by both UNiTAB and Tabcorp comes the release of an improved earnings result from the once-troubled Reef Casino Trust, owner of the largest casino in Cairns.
For the year ending December 31, 2003, Reef revealed a net profit of $11.1 million, a 33 per cent rise on the previous year's net profit of $8.4 million.
The better performance led to a final distribution of 7.25c per unit on a tax deferred basis and, with the interim distribution of 6c, delivers total distribution for 2003 of 13.25c, up 8 per cent on the previous year. Read the full story at Sydney Morning Herald |
