Poor sales for Rock Cafe goods hits Rank - 2004-02-27
Leisure group Rank said low merchandise sales at its Hard Rock Cafe chain led the brand to publish
"disappointing" financial results.

The group, which also owns the Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casino chains, said this had offset a recent upturn in food and drink sales at the chain.

Hard Rock's operating profits decreased to £23.1m, from the £27.6m seen previously, due to the difficult trading conditions.

Vernon Downs denied racing license, halting operation of VLT casino - 2004-02-27
The New York State Racing and Wagering Board has denied Vernon Down harness track a license for the 2004 season.

The decision also halts Vernon Downs’s operation of a $3.6-million casino with video lottery terminals, since state law does not allow a racetrack
casino to operate unless the track has a racing license.
