Penn National Loses Illinois Gaming Bid - 2004-02-27
Penn National Gaming Inc., Wyomissing, has lost its bid for Illinois' sole remaining riverboat gaming license.
One of seven groups to present proposals for the lucrative license, formerly held by the bankrupt Emerald Casino Inc., Penn National lost out Wednesday to finalists Harrah's Entertainment, Isle of Capri and privately held Midwest Gaming and Entertainment.
"This is surprising and deeply disappointing," said D. Eric Schippers, Penn National spokesman. "We continue to believe our proposal would have provided the most revenue to the state of Illinois. We remain proud of the innovative nature of our proposal."
