Should There Be More Gambling In Iowa? - 2004-02-03
Iowans believe expanding gambling in the state could either help the economy or wreak havoc on the social structure of the state.

Iowa lawmakers debated an array of gambling reforms at the statehouse Monday night.

It's the first time in about six years that the Legislature is seriously considering a new batch of casinos in the state.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission wants lawmakers to lift a ban on new casino licenses. That ban has been in place since 1998.

Blagojevich doesn't dismiss state-owned casino idea - 2004-02-03
Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Monday said he will leave the decision of whether the state should get involved in the casino business to the Illinois Gaming Board, but said the state should consider such a proposal if it has proper safeguards.

"My own personal opinion is that if you have the right kind of safeguards built in and you have the right kind of vigilance placed in the process, that it's
something that we seriously have to take a look at,"
Blagojevich said after touting his education reform proposals at a school on the city's West Side.
