Business Boost In Tama - 2004-02-03
Tama businesses are seeing sales increase. Now that the Meskwaki Casino is open, more people are coming into the community and more people means more money. A boost many businesses claim they need. Leno Anaya owns Leno's sports bar in Tama. He relies on business from casino employees and the local meat-packing plant.

But with both big employers closed down for a few months, he didn't know if his business would make it through, "I talked to my wife like two, three times trying to go bankruptcy." But Leno waited out the hard times and he's glad he did, "I think it's better, it's better than before they closed."

State Union For A Casino - 2004-02-03
The state's biggest employees union weighed in today on the side of the planned Ho-Chunk casino on the southeastern edge of Madison. "The Madison area is home to the majority of the 28,000 employees we represent," said Marty Beil, executive director of the Wisconsin State Employees Union, AFSCME Council 24, in a written statement.

Board members of the union voted to support the Feb. 17 referendum on allowing the DeJope bingo hall to become a casino, Beil said. "We believe the agreement between local governments and the Ho-Chunk nation is a good one. It will have a positive impact on the entire community," Beil added.
