Pro-casino group outspent opponent 7,000 to 1 - 2004-02-03
By the end of last year, the local anti-casino group No Dane Casino was outspent by at least 7,000 to 1 by the pro-casino group.

Campaign finance reports filed Monday that cover spending and fund raising through Dec. 31 show the Ho-Chunk Nation donated $935,000 to the Coalition for the Fair Indian Gaming and Revenue Sharing Agreements. No other groups had donated money.

Meanwhile, No Dane Casino raised $541.

Opelousas sets hearing on 24-hour liquor sales - 2004-02-03
The Opelousas board of aldermen has set a hearing
for Tuesday, Feb. 10 on whether liquor sales will be allowed around the clock within the city.

The subject became a matter of controversy after the council voted to allow 24-hour liquor sales at the Evangeline Downs casino, but continued the practice of 2 a.m. closings for other liquor outlets in the city.
