Donation would double career modules for sixth-graders - 2004-02-05
Horseshoe Casino owner Jack Binion wants to double the number of career modules offered to sixth-graders at Caddo Middle Career & Technology
Center in Shreveport.

He met with teacher Dottie Bell's sixth-grade career
explorations class three months ago. Impressed by the current modules, which teach students basic skills needs for restaurant, design and tourism careers, Binion offered to buy more.

Bell said she jumped at the opportunity and asked for another four modules with a total cost of $28,896. Binion last week signed off on the donation Jan. 30, said Frank Williams, Horseshoe vice president of governmental affairs.

Gaming company enhances its offer - 2004-02-05
Against the backdrop of a raucous public hearing Wednesday night, two companies were raising the stakes in their bids to develop a casino in south St. Louis County.

Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. raised its proposal Wednesday from a $167 million complex to a $300 million complex by the Jefferson Barracks bridge in attempts to match a casino plan for Lemay by Pinnacle Entertainment.

"We looked at the full potential of the market," said Tim Hinkley, president and chief operating officer of Isle of Capri.
