Boyd Gaming revenues creep up - 2004-02-05
Boyd Gaming Corp., the casino operator that runs almost daily charter flights from Hawaii to Las Vegas, reports quarterly earnings up only slightly. It complained of increased taxes and the rising cost of flying Hawaii residents to Vegas to gamble.
Revenues rose from $306 million to $308 million despite the opening of the Borgata, the first new casino in Atlantic City in 13 years, which it said it already operating at a profit margin of almost 24 percent. "We continue to achieve significant market share premiums in table games, slots and poker," CEO William Boyd said of the Borgata. "Operating expenses have decreased as we fine-tune our operations.
