Currie: Rosecroft bid for slots hurt by sale disputes - 2004-02-05
Pending lawsuits and ownership uncertainty are hurting Rosecroft Raceway's chances of being a part
of a plan to legalize slot machines in Maryland, leading Prince George's County lawmakers say.
Senate Budget and Taxation Chairman Ulysses Currie (D-Dist. 25) of Forestville, a strong slots supporter whose committee handles gambling expansion legislation, said Rosecroft is not in a favorable position to be part of the slots bonanza.
Currie said the prolonged and not-yet-official sale of the harness track in Oxon Hill -- delayed by lawsuits and complicated by other factors -- could convince lawmakers to strike the racetrack from the slots bill.
