Back to the future at the Moulin Rouge - 2004-02-06
Last Thursday's press shindig announcing the rebirth of the Moulin Rouge featured the standard amount of speechifying--from Mayor Oscar Goodman to Moulin Rouge Development Corp. CEO Dale Scott to City Councilman Lawrence Weekly. The two words most frequently used: history and future.
By all accounts, the brains behind the planned $200 million hotel-casino, which will include a Motown Cafe and cultural center and museum, are charting a course that balances a view to the future (check out the curvy, futuristic design) with more than a nod to the past.
