Chinese New Year celebration set - 2004-02-06
Saturday's Chinese New Year Celebration in Deadwood dates back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. At that time Deadwood had the second biggest Chinese population in the United states - second only to San Francisco - thanks to the work opportunities in the gold mines and on the railroads.
Today the culture of these proud people lives on in legend and memory and events such as the Chinese New Year celebration which has been held each year since 1990 at Miss Kitty's Chinatown Cafe at 649 Main Street in Deadwood.
The Grand Entry for the 2004 Chinese New Year celebration will start on Main Street in front of the Wild West Casino at 1 p.m. and proceed to Miss Kitty's Gaming Hall.
