Measure Could Benefit Cardroom, Del Mar Track - 2004-02-06
A proposed statewide initiative that might extend slot-machine gaming to non-Indian sites in California could bring millions of dollars to Oceanside and the Del Mar racetrack. Ocean's Eleven Casino in Oceanside – the single San Diego County site among the 16 considered for new slots,
could receive 800 of the machines.
City Manager Steve Jepsen said that could put up to $1.6 million a year into city coffers, if the projections of $100,000 in annual winnings from each machine are on target. That's about how much Oceanside gets from hotel and motel room taxes each year, and represents nearly 2 percent of the city's approximately $82 million budget.
