Most people - even those who have never visited here - know about the Las Vegas and Reno casinos from television, the movies, and newspaper and magazine articles. Many people believe that just because they now have an Indian or riverboat casino near their house that it's just like living in Vegas. But they have no concept about what "wide-open gambling" means.

A lot of people begin to understand the concept when they fly to Vegas and, while they're walking the runway into the terminal, they hear the bells, whistles, and clank-clank-clank of coins from the slot machines right at the gates.

Rosecroft sale proceeds amid doubts about slots - 2004-02-06
As the future of slots in Maryland -- and Rosecroft Raceway -- continues to swirl in the legislature, owners of the Fort Washington racetrack are prepared to sell the track, even as they struggle with two lawsuits.

The track's sale to veterinarian and business owner Mark Ricigliano, announced in December, will be completed within the next week, said Beth Trotto, a board member of the track's owners, the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association. Then, the Maryland Racing Commission will decide whether to approve the sale.
