CVB repeats: No casino in convention center - 2004-02-06
The Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau has once more confirmed its opposition in placing a downtown casino in the Buffalo Convention Center.

The CVB's directors took that position on Friday after reports that some elected leaders are pressuring the Seneca Nation of Indians into abandoning plans to put its Erie County casino in Cheektowaga and, instead, bring it to the downtown
convention center.

The Seneca Nation had identified the convention center last winter as a possible site, but strong opposition to that proposal had them look elsewhere in the county.

Baker expects casino issue to go to the voters - 2004-02-06
By the end of Nebraska's 2004 legislative session, State Sen. Tom Baker of Trenton anticipates Nebraska lawmakers will approve a constitutional amendment which would place the question of casino gambling on the ballot.

According to Baker, the Legislature will probably pass a proposed amendment which would allow up to eight casinos in the state. And, unlike previous proposals, this plan does not indicate where in the state the casinos would be located.

The Legislature gave the revised measure first-round approval, with one vote to spare, on Thursday.
