Indian Tribe Gives UCLA Law School $4M - 2004-03-11
Flush with casino wealth, an Indian tribe donated $4 million Wednesday to the law school at the University of California, Los Angeles, to support American Indian studies.

It was believed to be the biggest donation ever by a tribe to an educational institution.

"It's what's going to provide future leadership for us,'' chairman Deron Marquez of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians said after ceremonies at the Westwood campus.

Harrah's ups casino bid to $520 million - 2004-03-11
An auction between three companies wanting to purchase Illinois' 10th casino license closed this morning, with Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas as the highest bidder.

The auction closed at about 1:30 a.m. when the companies submitted final bids in writing to the Illinois Gaming Board, spokesman Gene O'Shea said.

Harrah's final bid was $520 million, Isle of Capri offered $518 million and Midwest Gaming bid $476 million, O'Shea said.
