Georgetown is no spot for slots - 2004-03-11 Georgetown appears to be a most unlikely place for
a gambling casino. In Delaware, slot machines are permitted only at horseracing establishments, including Dover and Harrington. In Maryland, all but one potential site for slots are also racetracks. In New Jersey, the big gambling spot is Atlantic City, a coastal resort that was already dependent on tourism. Politicians in Maryland and Delaware have so far calmed criticism and fears by assuring the public and other officials that gambling would never expand beyond that venue.

Evangeline Downs considers major horse arena - 2004-03-11 Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is thinking about creating a major horse arena in Opelousas.
"We want an ag center, a nice place for our kids to show their animals - jumpers, barrel racers. A nice arena for everyone to share," said David A. Yount, executive director of racing operations at Evangeline Downs.
While saying no decision has been made, he said the racino is considering a multimillion dollar facility similar to Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette. Read the full story at Opelousas Daily World |
