Singapore May Allow A Casino To Open After All - 2004-03-13 In a major departure from its former way thinking, the government may approve a casino on one of the southern islands to woo international talent, tourists and investments. Expanding on Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's announcement on Wednesday to permit the sale of landed properties at Sentosa Cove to foreigners, Trade and Industry Minister George Yeo disclosed plans for a 500- hectare resort and residential development linking Sentosa by boat or bridge to the Southern Islands three kilometres away.
The development is modelled on Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, but Brigadier-General Yeo said it will be uniquely Singapore. Read the full story at GamblingMagazine.com |

No dice, council tells casino - 2004-03-13 In a vote termed a victory for downtowners over developers, the Baccarat Casino has come up craps in its gamble to get city council approval for a large expansion and relocation.
Council voted 7 to 6 on Friday to reject the plan, which would have seen a $30-million gaming centre built on downtown's north edge as a replacement for the current Baccarat.
