Benicia Youth Hockey Program Builds Rink, Awareness from Special Events - 2004-03-13
The Benicia PAL Inline Hockey League today revealed plans to host its 2nd Annual Disco Casino fundraising event on Friday April 2, 2004 at the Clock Tower. In only its second year, the PAL Hockey Disco Casino event has turned into one of the most anticipated events of its kind in Benicia. The league's inaugural Casino Night, held in March 2003, helped fund the construction of the roller hockey rink by league volunteers at Community Park in time for the Fall 2003 season.

"The League's Board of Directors were very pleasantly surprised by the results of last year's event, especially with it being the first that we had produced", said Louise Knutter, the League's Treasurer.

When a Butte County tribe needed help opening a casino on a cow pasture 40 miles away, it went to a retiring U.S. senator from Colorado.

Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell helped introduce three obscure sentences into a Native American "technical corrections" bill that helps the casino site in Yuba County become tribal land – without mentioning the tribe's name, its location or even a word about gambling.
