Casino in Rosemont likely will hurt Elgin, city leaders believe - 2004-03-17
Chances are the building of a new casino in Rosemont could seriously diminish business at the largely successful Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.

"It's going to have a negative impact, of course, on Elgin. I think this potentially is a real setback for us," Elgin Mayor Ed Schock said. "I think Rosemont is the worst possible choice for a casino location."

Schock said he was greatly disappointed by the Illinois Gaming Board's decision this week to grant its 10th and final casino license to Rosemont, mainly because the 25-mile shot down I-90 between his town and Rosemont simply is too short.

Isle wins bid for Chicago casino - 2004-03-17
Isle of Capri Casinos was the winning bidder for Illinois' 10th casino license, shelling out $518 million
for the rights to build a casino in suburban Chicago.

The Biloxi-based casino company beat out Harrah's Entertainment and Midwest Gaming and Entertainment at a bankruptcy auction conducted by the Illinois Gaming Board. Harrah's had a higher bid and Midwest Gaming was supported by the gaming board staff, according to The Chicago Tribune, but the board chose the Isle at the recommendation of a New York investment banking firm.
