Delaware Tribe pursues Bonner Springs casino - 2004-03-17
The Delaware Tribe of Indians on Wednesday revealed plans to develop a $225 million destination
resort hotel and casino by the Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County.

The casino, which the tribe said would create 2,000 new jobs, would be in the northeastern corner of the city.

"This is a huge event," said Clausie Smith, Bonner Springs mayor, who called it the biggest development in the history of the city. He said the project would be appropriate because the Delawares were instrumental in founding the community.

Mississippi Agency To Consider College Casino Classes - 2004-03-17
The University of Southern Mississippi has requested the state College Board to approve the teaching of casino and resort management courses next fall.

The board, which asked for proposals in December, is anticipated to authorize the program Thursday despite a state law that prohibits public schools from teaching gambling courses. The board meets this week in Jackson.

"What we want to do is train people to be managers in an industry," said Harold Doty, dean of the College of Business and Economic Development. "We are not interested in teaching any gaming stuff."
