Nevada Gambling Regulators Criticize Casino Contest Probe - 2004-03-20
Nevada gambling regulators received a $1 million settlement from a Las Vegas Strip casino, but also faulted casino executives and state investigators for their reaction to a contest-rigging complaint.

Nevada Gaming Commission Chairman Peter Bernhard called allegations that The Venetian fixed contests the most serious he'd seen as a commissioner.

"The issues go to the heart of the integrity of the industry," Bernhard said Thursday. "We can't imagine the people involved did not know this was wrong."

Bill To Establish Native American Casino In Northwest Metro - 2004-03-20
A bill that might establish a Native American casino in the northwest metro I-94 corridor passed its second House committee.

The bill, carried in the House by Rep. Bill Haas, R-Champlin, permits the Red Lake and White Earth tribes, located in northern Minnesota, to have a metro casino.

Tribal officials argue they need one because their own casinos are too isolated, revenues too small, to ever meet the financial needs of their tribes.
