Counting on a casino for downtown growth is a big gamble - 2004-03-20
When Missourians authorized casino gambling a decade ago, most people thought St. Louis would reap plenty of the benefits.
There was discussion of putting three or more casinos downtown. One report commissioned by the city warned that all the gamblers may cause traffic congestion along the riverfront.

So, almost 10 years after the President Casino on the Admiral debuted as the first legal gambling hall in Missouri, that one-time aging excursion boat exists as the only casino downtown.

Various legsilators contemplating gambling permit auction - 2004-03-20
The purchase of a casino license in Illinois for a half billion dollars has some state legislators thinking about the auctioning of gambling licenses if legislators make slots legal.

The Illinois Gaming Board on Monday granted the state's 10th casino license to Mississippi-based Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., which proposed a $518 million to construct a casino in northwest Chicago.
