Why no 'free for all' casino - 2004-03-21
Trade and Industry Minister George Yeo yesterday defended the Government's plan to put entry restrictions on Singaporeans if a casino is established here.

At a dialogue with Bukit Batok constituents, Brigadier-General (NS) Yeo explained the Government changing its stance in disallowing casinos here when a resident asked how it would ensure the casino not erode social values.

'For a long time, the Singapore Government has said that it will not have casinos in Singapore. The reasons are very clear to us: Gambling can be addictive.

Casino workers can fight firings - 2004-03-21
People have been let go from Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun for everything from threatening colleagues to failing to ring up a bowl of oatmeal, according to tribal court decisions.

But whatever the matter, workers can appeal terminations at both businesses through internal administrative processes and tribal court.

"We do want to make sure here employees have remedies, even if it's through the judicial system, remedies for all types of claims," said Marietta Anderson, an in-house counsel for Foxwoods. "Wrongful termination is one of many."
