Senate declines new proposal to bring in more casino riverboats - 2004-03-24
Iowa communities anticipating to land new riverboat casinos were given a terrible setback Tuesday by a Senate panel as it authorized a heavy gambling bill.

The Senate State Government Committee declined a bid by new casino supporters that would have paved the path for as many as five additional riverboats in Iowa. But local casino boosters pledged to take their battle to the Senate floor.

Leader in Indian gambling office pushes for cap on states compensation - 2004-03-24
Congress should restrict the level of casino revenue tribes can give to states because big payments can constitute an illegal tax, an Interior Department official stated Wednesday.

But as Nevada-style tribal gambling has exploded and launched some Indians from poverty to extreme wealth, tribes that want to sign agreements with states to establish casinos are increasingly agreeing to split their revenue.
