Mob allegations endanger Illinois casino proposal - 2004-03-26
The specter of organized crime, brought up by the Illinois attorney general, could scuttle the granting of the state's solely unused casino license and thwart plans by Isle of Capri Casinos (ISLE) to construct a gambling resort in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont.

Madigan, who coordinated the plan to auction Emerald's license in lieu of revoking it, stated Rosemont had attempted to exert inappropriate influence over Emerald in a previous, but unsuccessful effort to locate a casino there.

Poker and casino games represented raised revenue and earnings for Canterbury Park Holding Corp., while horse racing contributed modestly.
