Illinois legislator's measures would include two casinos - 2004-03-30
Illinois would add two new casino licenses for the Chicago suburbs and extend the number of slot machines at current casinos under a measure a state legislator stated Tuesday he intends to introduce as soon as this week.

The law, which would restructure the state's betting taxes, would also extend the total of slot machines at each riverboat casino by 800, and permit horse racing tracks to install 3,500 slot machines.

MGM MIRAGE representatives are expected to publicly disclose three to four more deals this year to construct casinos in the United Kingdom, where the government is intended to loosen its gambling legislation to permit many more casinos and an eruption of slot machines in the next couple of years, investment firm Bear, Stearns & Co. claims.

Under deregulation, the British market may expand to roughly 185 casinos from 129 casinos and to over 42,000 machines from about 900 machines, the Bear Stearns report indicated.
