Gaming tax issued settled, new licenses not - 2004-03-31
Senate leaders said Tuesday they'll adopt gaming tax rates passed by the Iowa House last month despite the fact it could lead to a loss of up to $18 million in tax revenues to the state.
But Iverson said Senate leaders ultimately believed they had to take the House plan to get a deal with tracks.
"It will create some problems in the infrastructure budget, but we have to deal with it," Iverson said.
The House has passed a bill that would set tax rates at 22 percent of revenues for riverboat casinos, which had been paying a 20 percent rate.
