Baldwin Borough residents and environmentalists concerned about health effects from development of
a thoroughbred racetrack, casino, retail and housing
development in the city's Hays neighborhood urged Allegheny County officials Thursday night to strictly monitor pollution levels.
"The impact on those who live in the vicinity of the project will be significant," Rachel Filippini, program coordinator for the Group Against Smog & Pollution, told officials of the county Health Department's Air Quality Program at a public hearing in the Baldwin Borough Municipal Building.
