UPDATE 3-Mandalay fourth-quarter profit jumps - 2004-03-04 Casino operator Mandalay Resort Group (MBG.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Thursday announced quarterly profit increased at least five-fold, driven by strong hotel and convention center business at its Las Vegas properties.
Las Vegas, where the company's flagship Mandalay Bay resort is located, is attracting more convention business than other U.S. cities, a trend expected to boost room revenue there by a double-digit rate in the company's current quarter, President and Chief Financial Officer Glenn Schaeffer said in a phone interview. Casino Bill Takes Its First Step - 2004-03-04 The House Democrat behind a plan to bring millions of dollars into depleted state coffers by legalizing casino-style gambling publicly showed his hand Wednesday for the first time.
Rep. Larry Clark, who serves as speaker pro tem, said that his plan to allow four land-based casinos and casino-style gambling at five racetracks could help the state realize millions of dollars for programs such as education and Medicaid.
