Detroit casinos aim to block slots at racetracks - 2004-03-08 Detroit casino owners who hope to stop slot machines at horse tracks are pushing a constitutional change that would prohibit additional gambling in Michigan -- unless voters approve.
The group is prepared to hire a firm to start gathering signatures to put the measure on the November ballot, said Vivian Carpenter, president of Atwater Entertainment, a group of local investors that owns 11.5 percent of the MotorCity Casino. Greektown Casino replaces key executive - 2004-03-08 Long-time gaming manager Craig Ghelfi is the new chief operating officer at Detroit’s Greektown Casino, which reported a $2.3-million fall in profits last year on gaming receipts of $325.3 million.
Ghelfi, 52, replaces Sal Semola, who held the executive position at Greektown for two years. Prior to that, Semola was vice president of table games operations at the gambling hall, which opened at Lafayette and Beaubien in November 2001. Read the full story at Detroit News |
