Gold Reef Casino Resorts reports profit - 2004-03-09 Listed gaming and resorts group Gold Reef Casino Resorts (GDF) has announced a 29.4% increase in headline earnings per share (HEPS) for the year to end-December 2003, to 65.1 cents from 50.3 cents a year earlier. The group declared a final dividend for the year of 27 cents, up 80% from its maiden dividend of 15 cents per share in 2002.
Gold Reef has interests such businesses as Gold Reef City in Johannesburg, the Apartheid Museum, Golden Horse Casino, Casino Mykonos and the Garden Route Casino (42.5%). It also holds a 10% interest in Goldfields Casino, a new resort opened in Welkom in December. Read the full story at Business Day
Silver City Casino Bites the Dust - 2004-03-09 As Binion's Horseshoe finalizes plans to open, another historic Las Vegas casino is demolished. The bulldozers started at dawn on Tuesday chipping away at the building as construction workers tore down the Silver City to make way for a new building. This will be a rebirth that may help further spark growth in the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.
The historic casino stood on the north end of Las Vegas Boulevard since it opened in 1974. During the 70's, the north end of The Strip was the place to be. Over the last 15 years the focus shifted to the southern end of Las Vegas Boulevard. Read the full story at KLAS
