No additional time for Hawk-eyed casino cheat - 2004-04-01 Being a gambling crook with "extraordinary eyesight" is not grounds to extend a prison sentence for casino racketeering, a federal appeals court decided Wednesday.
Jing Bing Liang was among 17 people charged in a cheating conspiracy that took millions from casinos in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Atlantic City, N.J. Liang pleaded guilty in 2002 for his role, among others, of being able to secretly look at cards as they were being dealt. Read the full story at San Mateo County Times |

Governor convenes with a group of casino tribes - 2004-04-01 Delivering a signal that a share-the-casino-wealth agreement is close to between at least some tribes and the state, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hosted a rare face-to-face assembly with leaders from five California Indian tribes Wednesday.
The assembly in the governor's office, which lasted roughly 40 minutes and featured leaders from tribes in Placer, Yolo and San Diego counties, was more symbol than substance.
