Binion's Casino Makes Its Return! - 2004-04-01
New carpet is laid and the brass is polished for today's re-launching of Binion's Horseshoe, but hundreds of previous and returning employees stay stuck with unpaid medical claims and ruined credit ratings.

A calculated 850 employees will be on site today when the casino re-launches at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, in preparation for today's events, Harrah's has omitted 400 slots from the Horseshoe casino floor, leaving roughly 700 in place, to make it more navigable for players, Public Relations Director Dawn Petrick said.

Many tribes contested, call buy-in too expensive - 2004-04-01
Against the threat of a political firefight this fall, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday started finalizing terms of a major new Indian gaming deal that so far has split the state's strongest tribes.

In addition to unlimited slots, Schwarzenegger offered to weigh in against a ballot initiative that would give slot machines to race tracks and card rooms and to extend the existing tribal compacts 10 to 15 years, sources reported.
