Committee listens to arguments for, against Lumbee acknowledgement - 2004-04-02
Backers of federal recognition for the Lumbee Indian tribe in Robeson County claim the designation would offer the tribe chances to enhance their lives, but others claim the tribe's primary goal would be a casino.

The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians is a formidable foe. Its casino is the biggest private attraction in North Carolina and the tribe is a major political donor -- in 2003-04, it contributed a sum of $127,000.

New NF, Ont., casino to debut in summer - 2004-04-02
The dice will be rolling and the cards will be dealt commencing June 10 at the Niagara Fallsview Casino, the $1 billion casino and resort expected to launch in Niagara Falls, Ont.

The casino is seen as a major catalyst for Niagara Falls to cement its reputation as the gaming capital of southern Ontario. Between the two casinos, the city is intended to see its tourism base jump from 14 million annual visitors to over 20 million.
