Legislators encourage reversal of Schaghticoke ruling - 2004-04-02
Angry Connecticut legislators stated Tuesday that United States Interior Secretary Gale Norton has paid little attention to ongoing tribal recognition complications at the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).

Legislators convened with the interior secretary Tuesday evening and warned Ms. Norton that rich supporters interested in casino gaming are continuing to influence BIA rulings, and they pledged to call for immediate revisions within the agency.

Kent to petition BIA ruling - 2004-04-02
The town of Kent is appealing the Jan. 29 United States Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) ruling that granted federal recognition to the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation.

On March 19, the same day Kent officials voted to challenge the federal acknowledgement of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, a state legislative committee shot down a bid that would have restricted the tribe’s casino plans to its reservation.
