Meyer Bodoff had run Jewish federations in Worcester, Mass., and in Portland, Maine, but nothing could prime him for taking over the one in Las Vegas four years ago. "We get 600 new Jews a month in Las Vegas," Bodoff explained.

But perhaps the most novel activity will be this summer's Kosher Poker affair, a private poker match-up at the Sunset Station casino put on by the Federation's young adults group. Bodoff stated he hesitated about whether to back Kosher Poker, then determined it was clever in an only-in-Vegas sort of manner.

Mega Indian casino-resort debuts today in No. California - 2004-04-04
The grand debut of the Cache Creek Casino Resort, the development of what was a bingo hall and casino, takes place this morning in Brooks, Calif., 90 miles from San Francisco and less than an hour north of Sacramento in Yolo County.

The $200 million resort, controlled by the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians, is the first tribal casino with a hotel in Northern California. The 66,000-square-foot casino is comprised of 2,000 slots (legal limit), 120 table games and a 1,000-seat bingo hall. It hires 2,300 workers.
