The Hand Out
Frankie was a gambling addict, and would wager on anything and everything
that moved; tennis, figure skating, horses, hockey, dogs, curling, football,
baseball, lacrosse, basketball, snooker and even Australian rules football
games. When Frankie was down to his last lire, he went to his best friend
and said "Rocco, I need ten thousand lire, we have no food, I owe
rent, the children need clothes for school, and the wife is afraid to
leave the house because we've bounced checks all over town. Can you help
me?"
So his Rocco gave him twenty thousand lire to help him out, but on one
condition, that he does not use the money to gamble. Frankie's reply was
"Oh don't worry, I have money put away for that. I'm broke but I'm
not irresponsible"
